Globally, there are around 900 million vehicles on the road. Each year, this figure rises by around 70 million vehicles. Increasing urbanization will worsen the problem of emissions (CO2, NOx, particulate matter, and noise), especially in conurbations.
Today, more than half of the world's population is already living in towns and cities.
Given these trends, it is clear that the optimization of fuel consumption and reduction of emissions from conventional internal combustion engines is not an appropriate response to the challenges we face from increasing CO2 pollution and finite supplies of fossil fuels (crude oil).
Mobility will continue to be increasingly important. The challenge is to harmonize this mobility requirement with responsible use of energy resources and at the same time improve our quality of life – in particular, as regards the air we breathe and taking into account global climate change.
We believe that the answer for transport systems in the future, especially in conurbations, lies with solar mobility.
