The Intersolar Award 2009 has been presented to SOLON


Munich, May 27th, 2009 - The new SOLON Black 160/05 roof-integrated module is the winner of the Intersolar Award 2009. With its roof-integrated system of the Integration Line, SOLON is offering a new product with integrated assembly system that can be used for all common roof coverings. It replaces the usual bricks and roof tiles and, at the same time, delivers electrical current from solar energy. The module is mounted without conventional mounting systems and hence combines aesthetic design with ease of assembly. The Intersolar Award aims to focus attention on innovative ideas in the solar industry. For the second time this year, trendsetting products and services in the field of photovoltaic systems and solar thermal energy have been honored the Intersolar Award.

The SOLON Black 160/05 is manufactured from black mono-crystalline cells on a black rear film. The likewise black frames and side plates round off the attractive, homogeneous design of the system, which is at the same time a full-fledged replacement for the conventional roof coverings. In March 2009 the module already received the innovation award from the oldest and most important solar forum in Germany, the "Symposium on Photovoltaic Solar Energy" in Bad Staffelstein. The Intersolar Award for the SOLON Black 160/05 underscores the SOLON company's claim as technology leader in the industry. The Berlin-based company is thus building on its many successes that started with the introduction of the 200 watt module class and one of the first integrated, biaxial solar tracking systems: the SOLON Mover.

The jury of the Intersolar Award justified its decision in favor of the SOLON Black 160/05, as one of three co-winners in the category Photovoltaic systems, by citing the wide range of applicability for the module. According to the jury, the ease of assembly, the attractive aesthetic features, and the low weight make it possible to use photovoltaic systems with more types of roof surfaces whose roof beams previously would not have been strong enough for a conventional roof-mounted system. Due to its evenly distributed weight without concentrated loads and its low overall weight, it can be easily mounted also on top of older buildings.

The frame made from polyurethane also drew praise from the members of the jury. Together with Bayer MaterialScience AG, SOLON SE has developed a special process for manufacturing the solar module with this frame. The pre-drilled holes in the frame make assembly quick and easy; the frame only needs to be screwed to the roof battens. Additional sarking membranes, aluminum rails and module clamps are not needed. In addition, the plastic frames of the single modules overlap, similar to roof tiles; this makes them a part of the water-bearing layer. Consequently, water runoff is excellent. The side plates that are included in the delivery contents can be connected to all common bricks or roof tiles.

The SOLON Black 160/05 attains a maximum peak power of 180 watts which is the equivalent to an efficiency level of 14.06%. SOLON offers a performance warranty of 25 years for its modules.
